Where Love Becomes a Way of Life
The Intentional Soul is a place to slow down and notice what's true about the God of unconditional love — and about yourself. Whoever you are and however you got here, you're welcome to sit a while.

Come and see
Maybe you've spent years learning about God and still feel like a stranger to Him. Maybe prayer feels like a language you're forgetting, or one you never quite learned. Maybe you simply want to be still for a moment and see what's there.
This is a space for that kind of honesty. Whether you're new to faith, returning to it, or you've been at this a long time and want something more personal, there's room here for your questions, your doubts, and your real life.
A relationship with God isn't something to complete. It's something to live.
And like any real relationship, it has a way of quietly changing you — not just what you believe, but how you carry your ordinary days, and how you treat the people across the table from you. That's the whole of it, really. Where love becomes a way of life.
Two ways to begin
Both rest on the same conviction: God moves first. Our part is to notice, and to respond.
Three empty chairs arranged for conversation
Spiritual Direction
We begin from a simple conviction: God is already present and already at work in your life, often quietly, often before you notice. Spiritual direction is a regular, unhurried conversation to pay attention together — to notice where God is moving, and to respond freely, in your own words and your own time.

A stone labyrinth path in a quiet garden
The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius
The Exercises rest on that same conviction. Over several months, week by week, this well-worn path makes room for a relationship with God to deepen — through prayer, imagination, and honest conversation about what you're noticing along the way.

Dick Alexander
Who I am
I'm Dick Alexander. I'm seventy-some years into this life now, and when I look back, I can see ways God was preparing me for this work long before I knew that's what He was doing.
I was raised in a devout Catholic family. I knew a lot about God. But knowing about God and experiencing Him personally aren't necessarily the same thing. For many years, the God I carried around inside me could feel more like judge, jury, and executioner than the God of unconditional love.
That began to change. Gradually, through ordinary life, prayer, and especially the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, I began to experience God differently. The God of unconditional love became more than something I believed in. He became Someone I was learning to trust.
Looking back, I can also see how God used more than fifty years of work to prepare me for what I do today. I spent many of those years as a management consultant, helping people understand complicated things, work through difficult problems, and make thoughtful decisions. In some ways, the subject matter has changed, but much of what I learned about listening, asking good questions, and helping people discover their own way forward came with me. Today, through spiritual direction and the Spiritual Exercises, I have the privilege of accompanying people who want something more in their relationship with God.
I'm not here to hand you answers. I'm here to sit across from you, ask good questions, and pay loving attention with you to what God may already be doing in your life.
— Dick
